Banff Bed & Breakfast Among Top 30

With upwards of a hundred legitimate hotels, motels, inns, lodges, and B&Bs in Banff to choose from, plus those of Canmore, Harvie Heights, Kananaskis, Lake Louise, and the rest of Banff National Park, it can be a daunting task indeed to stick out from the crowd, unless you are blessed with the iconic history and towering property such as the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel has as its calling card.

For a little six unit bed and breakfast, being recognized internationally as best in its class would be like scaling the looming Mount Rundle without the requisite gear. But miracles do happen.

Texas-based BedandBreakfast.com released its Top 30 Bed and Breakfasts worldwide and the only Alberta property to make the grade was Banff Beaver Cabins. Eleven other Canadian B&Bs share in this glory, as do ten from the USA, and eight international facilities.

The rankings follow a quantitative and qualitative analysis of traveler reviews from the previous year and are selected by an independent panel of guest judges.

“BedandBreakfast.com is proud to recognize these 30 B&Bs that offer superior accommodations, thoughtful attention to detail, world-class hospitality, and the special extras that B&Bs are known for that make every stay memorable,” says Lisa Westlake Chen, general manager of BedandBreakfast.com.

Banff Beaver Cabins has been owned by Laura and Lloyd Hollihan since 2007, but started in the earliest years of the previous century as James Thompson House and Cabins by its namesake. Now offering six units for nightly rental only from June 01st thru September 30th (the remainder of the year they are available for only long term stays without housekeeping and breakfast), Banff Beaver Cabins is legendary among its guests for its fresh baking, warm hospitality, and epic scenery.

The cozy cabins and suites are centrally located just off Banff Avenue near the Parks Canada Information Centre, making it an easy stroll to shopping and points of interest, and sport animal names native to the region such as Fox Cabin, Elk Cabin, Bear Cabin, Lynx Cabin, Gopher Basement Suite, and Cougar Basement Suite. The largest unit can accommodate six guests.

As do many B&Bs, Banff Beaver Cabins takes advantage of its historical status, being recognized as a Heritage Site by the Province of Alberta and The Banff Heritage Corporation, owing its pedigree to one of the few remaining examples of the ‘backyard’ developments permitted in the 1920’s and 1930’s as Banff hastily tried to accommodate a large influx of tourists.

As one of Alberta’s top tourism destinations, Banff National Park welcomes more than three million visitors annually to its storied and breathtaking panorama. From relaxing getaways, to family vacations, to corporate meetings, to thrill seeking adrenaline junkies, to artistic inspiration, Banff has long captivated the hearts and minds of visitors inhaling the fresh mountain air and escaping their daily routines.

There are no telephones in the individual units at Banff Beaver Cabins, but with complimentary Wi-Fi service for guests, you won’t seem out of touch with friends and family. No pets are permitted. No smoking in effect. No wheelchair access (this is a heritage property and not subject to certain accessibility regulations). Check in time is between 4 and 6pm. Check out time is 11am.

Expect to pay $155 to $235 per night single or double occupancy with a minimum length of stay of two nights. Taxes are extra (GST 5%, Alberta Hotel Tax 4%, Tourism Levy 2%).
